What is SLOLAD?
SLOLAD is the San Luis Obispo Local Art Directory, a marketed internet resource for artists, studios, and galleries to be listed and seen in! We focus on being easily searchable, mobile friendly, and reasonably priced while also being visible to a large market.
How does SLOLAD market?
SLOLAD currently is marketed by banner ads in the SLO Coast Journal and by word of mouth. As we grow we will market both locally and in the San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles markets.
How much does it cost to be listed in the SLOLAD?
For and individual artist or a studio it is $82 per year and for a gallery it is $185 per year plus any upgrades. Upgrades include up to 4 additional photos at $1 per year each and up to 8 additonal high resolution photo links at $1.50 each per year.
How can I join the SLOLAD?
You can join the SLOLAD by going here and following the Sign Up Now link appropriate to your membership type. Or, you can call us at (805)-234-4090 and we can get your listing set up over the phone. Alternately, if you prefer, you can call us at the above number or email us at slolad@slolad.com to set up an appointment and we will come to your house/place of business and get your information in person.
Who can join the SLOLAD?
Anyone who is an artist, owns a studio, or owns or manages a gallery. By artist we don't just mean painters, sculptors, glass blowers, or photographers either! Anyone who is an artist is welcome to join - and that includes poets, musicians, performing artists of all sorts, composers, quilters, needlepointers, anything you can think of! You can look here to see what categories we already have, but there can always be more! If your art form isn't listed, let us know when you list and we might make a category just for you!
What area does SLOLAD serve?
SLOLAD serves all of San Luis Obispo county.
Does SLOLAD give back to the local community?
Yes we do! Besides being a great resource for local artists, we give 5% of our net income to local art education non-profit groups. The exact non-profit groups donated to will vary, but we will hold a poll on the Talking Art forum each year so that members can vote on where they'd like the money to go!
If have a problem with my listing or the site not working, will I get to talk to someone who can actually help?
Absolutely! Anytime you call the SLOLAD with a problem you will get to talk with the webmaster himself so you can be assured your problem will be addressed in a timely manner.
What makes you different than other listing services?
Unlike many of the other listing services, we give you your own page, several ways to get to that page, more ways to search the site, and we actively advertise our site and by extension our artists locally and out of area.
Why not just put an ad in the paper?
When you consider putting a 1/16 page ad (which is generally the smallest ad) in a local newspaper costs 98% more per year for an individual artist than here, we feel like we're being reasonable with our rates while also reaching a larger market.
How can I help SLOLAD?
By telling everyone you know about us, especially artists of all sorts, and by asking them to tell everyone they know about us. If you want to do more, you can put our banner on your site (subject to approval), contacts us if you'd like to do that. If even that isn't enough helping for you, you can head over to The SLOLAD Shoppe and buy some great items for yourself and your friends. And if you just can't get enough helping, go to the Talking Art forum and post good questions, useful answers, and pertinent information. |
